Condolence & Prayers

Dear Berning Family,

Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt sympathies at the passing of this remarkable lady. Dorothy's faith and family is her life!! Although it has been many years, I vividly remember seeing the fulfilling joy that consumed her when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and I am certain in later times, great-grandchildren during family gatherings. She is so overwhelmingly proud of each and every one of you that carry her last name, whether by birth or marriage. Yes, even the men that married the Berning girls, are Bernings--to her!!!

She loves her family and she loves her Lord! We can all certainly take a lesson from her examples of how to encourage, support, be kind, strong and love others without judgement. She was also able to graciously maintain her own point of view that, as I recall, she would share with you, if asked!

I have chosen to speak of her in present tense with specific intention. My reason is simply because Dorothy Berning lives inside each and every one of you and you will carry her with you in so many ways for the remainder of your lives here on this earth.

It has been 19 years since my mom's passing. I have learned a few things, and, if I may, I will share them with you. Some part of Dorothy, whether it's her words, thoughts or actions will be evident every single day. This will bring heavy tears for a while as you all adjust to the temporary separation from her physical presence. However, as you all begin to heal in your own specific ways your smiles will replace the tears more frequently. Tears will still come but they won't always carry the overwhelming weight that they do at this time.

I will be praying for all of you, both today and for many tomorrows to come. May our awesome, compassionate and loving Lord and Savior wrap His huge arms around each of you as you begin this new journey.

With great love and respect,

Karen Berning-Hunter
