Obituary for Carl Wayne Anderson

Carl Wayne Anderson
CARL ANDERSON, 84, passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018. Carl retired as a professional educator of Biology and Chemistry after teaching for more than a combined 45 years at Snider High School, Jefferson Middle School, Lakeside Junior High School, Lafayette Central High School and college-level classes at Indiana Purdue in Fort Wayne. After earning his Bachelor’s degree from Manchester University and his Master’s degree from Ball State University, Carl continued his studies by taking Doctorate-level courses throughout his career. He was a member and former chapter President of Phi Delta Kappa, an organization for professional educators. He was also the valedictorian of his high school graduating class. He grew up on an Indiana farm, the son of sharecropper parents, Fred and Berneice Anderson, later becoming the first in his family to attend and graduate college. Carl served his country in the U.S. Army, Third Armored Division, while earning a distinguished Marksmanship Award. Elvis Presley’s unit relieved Carl’s while he was stationed in Germany. In retirement, Carl loved to travel, driving cross country whenever he could to see the national parks and to visit his large extended family. He also enjoyed working as a professional photographer in his spare time. His favorite song lyric was, “Accentuate the positive.” Every year during the Christmas season, Carl would make his famous peanut brittle candy to give as a sweet gift to friends, family, the mailman, and his gracious neighbors who would shovel the snow from his front walk and driveway.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane; his three children, Pamela (Mike Fremion), William (Angela), Michael (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Madeline, Grant, Joseph, Will, Jackson; his siblings, Shirla, Ray and J Clifford. Carl is preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Deese, Jim Anderson; and his parents, Frederick and Berneice (Schlaudraff) Anderson.

Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd. The viewing is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at the funeral home. Donations to First Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne, Ind.
