Obituary for Betty Jane Longest (Janssen)

Betty Jane Longest (Janssen)
BETTY JANE LONGEST, 92, passed Monday, April 24, 2017 and undoubtedly entered the kingdom of Heaven for she was an angel on earth. Born Betty Janssen July 30, 1924. Betty married Ferris "Junior" Longest in 1947 who preceded her in death on June 25, 2015.

She graduated from business college in Ft. Wayne in 1944 and began a long career in bookkeeping at Old Fort Industries. Betty was a loving wife and mother, whose kindness, gentleness, positive attitude and deep, quiet faith made her a joy to all who knew her. She was also a fighter who survived breast cancer for nearly 25 years. Betty could sew anything; cook anything but her greatest love was her family. She was a lifelong Lutheran who used her gifts to serve others in a number of volunteer activities.

Survivors include children, Roger (Janet) Longest, Karen (Marshall) Zimmerman and Delmar (Sharon) Longest; sisters, Anna, Tinie and Wilma; 7 grandchildren, Matthew Longest, Erin Coleman, Rachel Longest, Kyle Longest, Brian Zimmerman, Lucas Longest and Christy Zimmerman and 5 great grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Isabela, Elliott and Rory.

Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Paul and Frances Janssen.

A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 8010 West Jefferson Blvd., with calling two hours prior. She will be entombed at Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Home.
