Obituary for Homer "Dale" Rollins

Homer "Dale"  Rollins
Homer “Dale” Rollins, 96, passed Friday, August 26, 2016. Born December 25, 1919 in Kendallville, he was the third son of the late Sanford and Gertrude Rollins. Dale was a member of Sonrise Methodist Church. On March 30, 1941 he married the late Mary Jane (Vance) Rollins. Dale served in the Army during WWII in the Military Police Corp. Returning from the Army they moved to Roanoke where they raised their three wonderful children. Dale founded Menu Meats Inc., in 1951. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge FAM-195 in Roanoke, Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine Center, Hapzing Shrine Club in Huntington, Samsar Shrine. He was active with Mizpah Shrine Horse Patrols leading as president and captain, and a member of the International Shrine Horse Patrols, Great Lakes Shrine Horse Patrols serving two years as president. Dale was a past commander for the American Legion Post #160 in Roanoke. During retirement he was instrumental in starting a meat cutting Program at Ivy tech Culinary Arts Dept. He worked part time for Kelly Auto and a volunteer at Lutheran Hospital.

Dale is survived by his children, Donna (Steven) Fortriede, Gailen (Julie Lichtsinn) Bender both of Fort Wayne and Geary (Mary) Rollins of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Jane Rollins, in 2003; a great grandson, Gage Bodenheimer; brothers, Ira and Forrest Rollins.

Funeral Service is 11 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at Covington Memorial Gardens, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Officiating will be Pastor Scott Greene. Calling is also 2-6 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the funeral home. He will be entombed at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to Sonrise Methodist Church.
