Obituary for Ronald Lee Dowty

Ronald Lee  Dowty
Ronald L. Dowty, 69, of Spencerville, loyal husband and devoted father, was called to heaven to join those who have gone before him on July 5, 2016. He was fun, kind and loving to all. Ron loved horse shows, dogs, golf and any and all family adventures. Ron was a graduate of Ossian High School and Purdue University. Highlights from his 35 year career include: Engineer at Phelps Dodge, Divisional Quality Manager at Tokheim and Bomar Industries, Vice President of Quality and Engineering at Pierce Industries and Sales for Cabinets by Graber. His love and involvement in American Saddlebred Horses led to his becoming the National Chairman of the American Saddlebred Youth Committee and a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from the breed association. Ron was a member of the Trinity English Lutheran Church, Wayne Lodge #25, Mizpah Shrine, a leader of the Allen County 4-H Horse and Pony club, and various professional organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Fitting) Dowty of Spencerville; children, Amy (Dan) Burns of Fort Wayne, David (Heather) Dowty of Fort Wayne, Christopher (Anna) Dowty of Fort Wayne, Michael (Chrystal) Dowty of Leo, Melissa (Scott) Hines of Louisville, Kentucky, Jeffrey Dowty of Fort Wayne and Brian Dowty of Spencerville; 12 grandchildren, Ashley, Ethan, Kaleb, Makenna, Micah, Cecilia, William, Caroline, Evan, Elianna, Colin and Kortney; and brother, Jerald Dowty of Atlanta, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Mary (Johnson) Dowty.

Celebration of Life is 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2016 at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 W. Washington Blvd., with calling two hours prior. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to the American Saddlebred Horse Association Youth Scholarship Foundation (in honor of, Ronald Dowty), 4083 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Kentucky 40511.
